IV OU “Dimcho Debelyanov” Blagoevgrad, BULGARIA
In September IV OU "Dimcho Debelyanv" received a message with which we understood that the long-awaited project "Classroom in nature" with coordinator Slovenia and partners Bulgaria and Turkey, will be realized. At the very first teachers' meeting, she was notified, and everyone welcomed the news with great joy. We started distribution on the Facebook page of the project and on the school website so that the local community can be informed. We also had the opportunity to spread the word about winning the project to two kindergartens who were invited to our school as guests and to two more secondary schools, we also had the honor to spread the project and a group of teachers from Turkey who were in our exchange school, and they were very impressed with the idea of an outdoor classroom, saying they would love to have such a room in their schools as well.
Although the funding of the project was quite late, our coordinators started planning the project activities from the beginning and preparing for the upcoming transnational meetings that are planned in advance. Tasks we completed are: • Dissemination of information about the project in the media - publications on the school's website and Facebook page. We made an information sign and an information poster, which we placed at the entrance of the school and in front of the directorate; • Logo selection – 28 students participated with 35 logo suggestions. A vote was held among the students to choose 5 logos to propose to the partners; • Design, planning and layout of an outdoor classroom and sensory garden in the school yard with space for vegetables and flowers; • Welcoming autumn: the children collected fallen leaves, walnuts, acorns and pine cones and made incredibly beautiful objects from them (autumn projects) • Survey of teachers and students about the idea of an outdoor classroom and their experience in lessons outside the school classroom. What tools and equipment are used in gardening, which plants do they recognize and have they ever had a touch related to gardening and growing vegetables and herbs. |
In arts and entrepreneurship classes, teachers asked students questions related to their knowledge and involvement in gardening - whether they had their own gardens, whether they helped grow any vegetables, whether they knew how to look around, whether they knew any spices and herbs. The aim was to find out if the students were familiar with this activity and their opinion.
We tasked different classes to research more about the respective countries by making posters related to the traditions of Slovenia and Turkey, their capital cities and what fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown there.
After planning the location for our outdoor classroom, we decided that our outdoor classroom will be a garden metal, easily portable gazebo with a cover and folding chairs and tables.
The financing of the project took place, as we received 80% of the entire financing, immediately after that, in the month of November, the first organizational meeting of the project took place in Ljubljana.
During the meeting, the tasks of the project, future mobilities with students and teachers, and future trips of teachers job shadowingwere planned. All dates were fixed unanimously. We attended some art lessons, and together the colleagues from Turkey participated in making the first art tables that the colleagues from Slovenia will place in their outdoor classroom. We also attended a cooking and wood carving lesson, as well as taking part in a tasting evening of local specialities.
